How to Determine Carat Size

One carat is equal to 0.2 grams, and one diamond carat is divided into 100 points, meaning that 0.25 of a carat is 25 points or ¼ carat. The size dimension of a diamond for its weight is a good indicator of its value and desirability. For example, a 1ct round diamond would ideally measure around 6.5mm in diameter, a 1.5ct around 7.2mm and a 2ct diamond approximately 8mm. Ideal diamond dimensions are different for every diamond shape. Dimensions are a good indicator of how well a diamond has been cut for it to reflect the maximum amount of light.

Value of diamonds per carat

The value of diamonds per carat can vary massively depending on the other specifications. Carat weight has a large impact on a diamond’s value, along with cut, colour clarity and certification. This means that even two diamonds of the same carat weight will most likely differ drastically in value.

What to consider

It is important to consider carat and cut together when buying a diamond. A larger carat diamond with a poor cut grade can appear smaller than a diamond of the same size with a higher cut grade.

Tips for Buying as a Surprise

We know many engagements are a surprise, which can make sizing a bit tricky. Here are some discreet methods to help you find the right size without spoiling your plans:

• Borrow a ring: Use a ring your partner wears on the correct finger and measure it with our Printable Ring Sizer.

• Make an impression: Press the ring into soap, clay, or even soft bread to capture its outline.

• Trace the inside: Place the ring on paper and trace the inner circle for an accurate measurement.

• Try it on yourself: Slide their ring onto your own finger and mark where it stops—then have that spot measured.

• Ask a friend: A trusted friend may already know your partner’s size or can find out casually.

Resizing Your Ring

We want you to enjoy the perfect fit. If the size is slightly off, we are happy to help.

• Complimentary resizing is available within 90 days of shipment, up to one full size up or down.

• Shipping costs to LoveOnly are covered by the customer.

• Resizing beyond 90 days, or more than one full size, is charged at:

  • $80 for 18K gold rings (plus shipping)

  • $100 for platinum rings (plus shipping)

Once payment is received (by phone or via a secure payment link), we’ll email you a PDF form with your authorization number and shipping instructions. After receiving your ring, resizing typically takes 5 business days, and your ring will then be shipped back via express courier. The entire process usually takes about 1 week from the time we receive your ring.

Important: Sizing up or down by more than half a size can affect the ring’s structural integrity. For significant size changes, our jewelers may need to evaluate the setting first.

Adjustments

If you’ve fallen in love with a LoveOnly design but need adjustments—such as adapting for a different center stone size, a special ring size, or a two-tone design—we can accommodate these requests.

• Adjustments are made at the wax model stage (before casting) to preserve quality.

• Most adjustments do not increase standard production times.

• In some cases, a new model may be required if wax adjustments are not possible.
